Upper Friggin' Filters

Yet another Windows machine with an "Upper Filters" optical drive problem today. What good are these things? I read online that they let drive authoring software have direct access to the hardware drivers, but maybe that's not such a good idea. I guarantee that the Windows Registry was not a good idea. What was wrong with .ini files anyway? And Globally Unique Identifiers may be fine for computers, but they sure are tough on the human mind.

Worked from 7AM to 6PM, and didn't get enough done....
